Yamagiwa Mayuhana Mie 50cm Pendant Light Black

Handmade pendant lights were created by Japanese architect Toyo Ito by reeling fibre glass ‘string’ around a mould by hand, forming a perfect round shell.

With an air of the traditional Chinese paper lantern, the Mayuhana Mie Pendant Light shines through three layers creating a mystical quality giving off a halo effect and something altogether quite spectacular.

The spun thread design is reminiscent of a cocoon and gives off a soft light that is enhanced by the double and triple shelters of this delicate, fiberglass creation.

After graduating from Tokyo University in 1965, in 1971 he founded his own studio Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects. He has received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion of the International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, the Royal Gold Medal of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Pritzker Architecture Prize. In the 70s, he tried to erase the conventional meaning of his works through minimalist tactics, to then develop a lightness in an architecture that resembles air and wind.
