Qubus Wellington Boot Vase White

Rubber boot shaped vase, originally white, later expanded in many colour variations, starting with onion decoration and other, mainly plated variations. Part of a thesis with one of the most famous Maxima products. The author's fascination with folkiness, practical aesthetics and trivial charge is already evident here, as well as his desire to reverse a seemingly fatal fate and elevate an ordinary product through noble materials and a change of function.

Maxim Velčovský completed his studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and in 2002 he became co-founder of the Qubus design studio. He participated in over ninety joint exhibitions and his works are, for instance, included in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, The New Pinakothek in Munich, the Museum of Art and Design in Prague, or the Design Museum in Lausanne. In 2007, he won the Czech Designer of the Year award. In 2011, while also heading the Ceramics and Porcelain Atelier of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Velčovský became Art Director of Lasvit.

The Qubus brand was founded in 2002 by Jakub Berdych together with Maxim Velčovský, and in the same year they opened a design store of the same name, which was created with the idea of ​​presenting Czech contemporary and conceptual design in a witty and unconventional way.
