Kay Bojesen was inspired by several uniformed agencies, which can be seen in the Standard bearer and Policeman, among other figurines. The original Marine figurine has a charming expression with a slimmer silhouette and the hat at an angle. The dark blue uniform, the slanted hat and the striped scarf makes a beautiful maritime look. Kay Bojesen went on a voyage and on his way, he sailed as the only registered passenger on a Russian cargo ship named Minsk. Kay Bojesen’s statement about the sailors read “They all became my friends and the ship my home”.

Kay Bojesen is one of the big Danish designers. He was able to turn wood into original stories like no other. He had a knack for bringing the wood to life. Or as he put it: “Making the line smile”. And the lines certainly smile in each of the Wooden Animals – which have all become iconic.
