The Designer: Jean-François Gomrée. Born in a family of furniture makers in southern Belgium, Jean-François studied Industrial Design at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels-La Cambre in Brussels before moving to the US in 1994 to collaborate with famed designer Bill Stumpf, the man behind the iconic Aeron chair and other notable innovations in seating and ergonomics. Through his work with SWA Design Studio, he worked with the American manufacturer Herman Miller in creating furniture concepts for the office environment. He took an interest in bridging gaps between office and residential furniture, between American and European design sensitivities as well as between two still often disconnected notions: Form and Function. A committed researcher, opinionated designer, occasional sculptor and graphic designer, Jean-François practices a total approach to design and maintains that: “Good designs are like good friends. The more time you spend with them, the more you appreciate them.” At a time when others develop style-based “designer brand” that can then be repeatedly applied to anything without considerations of their worthiness, he believes that designs need to surprise and be the result of thoughtful considerations and close collaborations.
The Brand: Horm. With its range of furniture, which brings together simplicity, art and innovation, Horm offers a home environment that is essential yet refined, lending every home an air of uniqueness and exclusivity. The collection’s common denominator is the development of products of great character that combine aesthetics, functionality and awe.
Horm Group is a global player in the field of high-end Italian design furniture. It aggregates three brands: Horm.it, Casamania and Orizzonti Italia and exports its products to more than 80 countries.
