The name 'Tatou' is French for armadillo - a creature with a leather protective shell and in the same way this lighting family is a model of resistance and strength whilst at the same time offering dynamism, lightness and flexibility.

The 'shell' protects direct light to the eyes and produces a harmonic play on light and shadow through the perforated sections.

This is made up of four identical elements which are all interwoven to form a unified dome shape which diffuses light both up and down

Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain. She studied at the Faculdad de Arquitectura de Madrid and the Politecnico di Milano, where she graduated with a thesis having Achille Castiglioni as supervisor. In 1993 he opened an associate studio with M. De Renzio and E. Ramerino, dealing with architectural design, interiors, showrooms and restaurants. From 1996 to 2000 she coordinated the design group of Studio Lissoni Associati. In 2001 she founded a personal studio, devoting herself mainly to design, fittings and architecture.
